Stacey Willis is a writer and freelance graphic designer; born in Zimbabwe and raised primarily in South Africa. She now lives in the UK. She has been writing since 2015, beginning online and now specialising in all levels of fantasy and gritty fiction.
HOW IT BEGAN
From a very young age all Stacey could do was create stories. At eight, she was convinced that her haphazard English project of twenty pages constructed from notebook paper was the perfect self-published work. Time was yet to teach her different. In 2015, the world of online reading and writing was blooming. After receiving a recommendation from a friend, Stacey delved into Wattpad —a popular writing and reading site. She established herself as a fan fiction writer initially —creating alternate realities to satisfy her dissatisfaction with the source material. With a budding fanbase, it was decided that it was time to venture into writing original stories.
Ideas seemed to flow one after another, quickly forcing her to prioritise her most developed plots. The Daughter of Fire Saga is her debut series, with the earliest rough draft for book one dating back to 2013. With some rewriting and fine tuning, Daughter of Fire was ready to hit the market in June 2020; and the wider reach of hardcover in 2021. Book two, Son of Death, is published and available, while book three is currently being written. Aside from the debut series, her next project, Song of Mist and Storm ( formerly The Dream Weaver ) faded in and out of development for a few years. Though finally in the second half of 2020, she completed the first book of four in the span of two and a half months.
When her stories became officially featured on Wattpad, it dawned on her that perhaps her books had some physical market value. Even though she no longer writes anything new on the site, she felt that this was the best course for her career. Writing had always been a joy, but now she has the opportunity to share stories with an even wider audience. She has not looked back since.
WHERE IT's GOING
As she enters the world of self publishing, Stacey hopes to maintain her freelance graphic design business while she currently studies Creative Writing.
Daughter of Fire is now available from major retailers in the UK, USA, Australia and Canada —including Book Depository, Booktopia, Barnes & Noble and Waterstones. Its sequel, Son of Death, will join these platforms in February 2022.
